Jonah When the Focus of Your Life Is Wrong

Jonah When the Focus of Your Life Is Wrong

JONAH – When the focus of your life is wrong

Jonah 4:1-11

#1 BEING HONEST WITH GOD vv. 1-3

And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.” Exodus 34:6-7 (NIV)

#2 GOD IS PATIENT, LOVING AND HAS A SENSE OF HUMOR vv. 4-6

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9 (NIV)

#3 WE ARE ALL A WORK IN PROGRESS vv. 7-9

At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship 21 and said:

“Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.” In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing. Job 1:20-22 (NIV)

#4 GOD HELPS US REFOCUS ON THE THINGS THAT MATTER MOST vv. 10-11

Yet preaching the Good News is not something I can boast about. I am compelled by God to do it. How terrible for me if I didn’t preach the Good News! 1 Corinthians 9:16 (NLT)
